" From Dubai to Dublin " McGettigan's Cookhouse & Bar . Dublin. @mcgettigansdub

McGettigan have brought their successful Award Winning concept to Dublin with the opening of  McGettigan's Cookhouse & Bar . The restaurant and bar is located in the famous North Star Hotel, close to the IFSC , which has recently been  fully refurbished to a deluxe 4 * and given an overall contemporary new look , with a range of luxury Premier Club rooms and suites , meeting and conference facilities , fully equipped gym & Scandinavian sauna.
The Cookhouse & Bar is a relaxed eatery with an open Kitchen in an American Cookhouse style . With Executive Chef  Craig Higgins at the helm , committed to using the finest Irish quality meat , fish , fruit and vegetables , which are sourced locally and from producers within a 20 km radius , to create dishes that are fresh and in season .From Ray Collier Butchers... Brendan Guinan amazing vegetables... Iona Fruit farm... ,  The menu caters for all tastes and includes " Specials of the day " which are updated every morning .

We were here for Sunday lunch . We were seated at a corner table by large Windows painted in Elephant grey , filling the spacious white room with glorious light . It felt very welcoming and unpretentious .
An interesting menu included Starters of  Grilled goats cheese salad, organic beetroot, caramelised pecans & Chardonnay vinaigrette @ €8.50  or how about a Ham hock potato cake , poached egg & cayenne hollandaise @ €7.50 or The  Soup of the day with home made brown bread @ €5.50.
A starter of Atlantic Cod and Smoked Sea trout Cakes @ € 8.50  exceeded my expectation . Bountiful in fish with just a hint of smokiness . it was complimented by sweet caramelised lemons and a rustic style tartar sauce ,  with enough zing made it a perfect mouthful.

The  Classic Caesar salad with reggiano parmigiana @ €8.00 was smartly presented . A generous serving of crisp Cos lettuce , lightly coated in a rich and tangy Cesar dressing , crispy sourdough croutons , moon blush tomatoes and plenty of fresh Parmesan shavings. An excellent salad.

Moving onto mains courses, are familiar fares of 35 day dry aged Lambay island Beef , 8 oz sirloin steak , grilled field mushrooms , overnight roasted plum tomatoes , triple cooked chips and a choice of Bushmills whiskey & cracked black pepper , Bearnaise or garlic & scallion butter @€ 16.95  , or Rack of Irish pork ribs , corn on the cob , smokey bourbon sauce & chunky chips @ € 16.95 or A sweet potato and hazelnut pie , young goat's cheese curd & mesclun salad @ € 12.50
We opted for the daily's Specials . The  Slow cooked lamb shanks , creamy potatoes, carrot and courgettes casserole & Cabernet sauvignon jus @ € 13.95.  It was delicious . The lamb was tender and fell off the bone , it sat atop smooth, creamy and herby potatoes. The accompanying carrots and courgettes casserole helped to balance out this perfect dish , ideal for a Sunday lunch . It fulfilled all requirements ......

The Grilled Dublin landed Haddock with baby potatoes , clam chowder and puree of spring onions @ € 13.95  was  equally delicious but the portion of fish was on the very small side , but it was beautifully cooked . The calm chowder was very tasty, creamy and full of flavours of the sea .

For Desserts , on the recommendation of our handsome and very pleasant waiter Bruno , We chose a Creme Bruleé with almond biscotti biscuit @ € 5.50 . The addition of the biscotti was a welcoming touch , the bruleé was a smooth and velvety cooked cream with a light caramel crunch . Perfect .

An elegant Raspberry Dublin Mess @ € 5.50 was a concoction of crushed freshly baked meringue , fresh Irish raspberries and a raspberry Chantilly cream ever so lightly flavoured with vanilla .
Both were ideal choices to compliment our meal and as  Sunday lunch  passes away , we thought , .. Yes , this is how Sundays should be ....

McGettigans Cookhouse & Bar will undoubtedly go down well with business people across from the IFSC , but I also see group of friends and couples who want some tasty food before hitting the 02 , The Convention centre , Croke park or en route to Dollymount beach and Howth .

We loved the emphasis on local produce , friendly , attentive staff and the relaxed vibe of the place.
Well worth a visit and excellent value for great food .

  1. Not a place I would of considered eating in until I viewed this blog it's open airy spacious seating is inviting and the dishes look amazing from what I would have just classed as a bar certainly one to watch and I believe you've put McGettigans on the map Robert.
